I'll make no bones about it: I love this musical. I've only got the CD, I've never seen it, but what a wonderful score and what wonderful bits of dialogue that evoke the period so beautifully.
So, here's my declaration: I'd love to get this show on with my local society. It's got a title that sells, even though it's not known as a musical, it's been on television fairly recently and it's not enormously expensive if you are careful with the set and use lots of cloths.
As for awards, it was nominated at the 2001 Tony Awards for:
- Actress (musical)
- Book (musical)
- Lighting
- Musical
- Score
So, basically, nominations in all the top ones. Plus, it was the year of The Producers, so not many show got a look-in for the actual wins.
Details of the show from Josef Weinberger
YouTube Clips:
- Sirens - sung at the 55th Tony Awards
- Sirens - informal performance.
- Sweet Liberty - no visual
- Secret Soul - from the studio during recording of the cast soundtrack.
- End of Act I - bootleg from the theatre
- As Good as You - Toronto cast
So, anyone want to borrow my CD?
